A gambling research firm surveyed 505 online gamblers in New Jersey last month and found that 35 percent of them were completely new to online gambling and that 37 percent had switched from illegal sites to the sites that became legal in late November. Commercial Intelligence, the research firm, said the research "represents a compelling fiscal case study for states seeking to cut their budget deficits." However, online gambling in New Jersey generated just $8.4 million in revenue from Nov. 21 through December, a state agency reported last month. Only 15 percent of that went into the state's coffers.
